Obituary

Preston (Pep) M. Blackwelder Jr. of Port Wentworth, Ga., completed his earthly journey on Sunday, August 19, 2018.  He was born on September 16, 1936 to Preston (Blackie) and Bess Blackwelder.  He graduated from Savannah High School in 1954, enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for two years and married Sherry Sue Holbrook of Cumming Ga. on June 10, 1956. Their Union was blessed with two children: Marty and Sherry.
Pep never met a stranger. He greeted everyone with an outstretched hand, a warm smile, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He served faithfully as a member of First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth, Ga. for 62 years in various capacities and had a genuine and sincere relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pep was also well respected in the business community where he excelled in the field of Human Resources and served on the corporate teams of Continental Forest Industries, Gulfstream
Aerospace, and Savannah Foods and Industries over a span of thirty years. After the passing of his first wife, Sue, Pep was remarried to Karen Brinson Blackwelder on October 5, 2016 and together they have shared a special, God-given season of life.
Pep was preceded in death by his first wife: Sue Blackwelder; his parents, Preston and Bess Blackwelder and his sister, Gail B. Blackwelder.  Pep is survived by his current wife, Karen Brinson Blackwelder of Richmond Hill, Ga. Children, Marty (Lola) Blackwelder of McDonough, Ga., Sherry Blackwelder of Rincon, Ga. Step daughters: Terri Sheahan (Joe)of Richmond Hill, Ga. Denise Hatcher of a Richmond Hill, Ga; and step son, Joseph C. Brinson Jr. Grandchildren, Kiersten Blackwelder, Madison and Aubrie Blackwelder; sister-in-law, Francis (Wayne)Miller and nieces, Melissa Borders and Cristina Rahn.
A memorial service will be held at Port Wentworth Baptist Church on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
