Savannah – TSGT, Ralph Vernon Hughes, United States Air Force, Retired, 87, husband of the late Ella Louise Ennis Hughes, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Hughes was born on December 20, 1927 in Pulaski, Virginia to the late William Burget Hughes and the late Lillie May Kress Hughes. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 184 of Thunderbolt, Georgia and was a lifetime member of the Marines Toys for Tots program. Mr. Hughes was also a member of the National Riffle Association and the Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroline Thomas and his son Thomas Smith.
Surviving are his daughter, Sandra Bouton of Springfield; his brother, J.R. Hughes of Greenville, North Carolina; his sister, Joyce Hughes of Pulaski, Virginia; his granddaughter, Samantha L. Raffield and her husband, George of Houston, Texas; his grandson, James Cecil Nolan, Jr. of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Wendi, Alicia, and Brittany; his dear friend, Mary Spires of Augusta; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home
Funeral: 2 pm Sunday in the chapel of the funeral home
Interment: Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery.
