Randall Ward Carter

Savannah- Randall Ward Carter, 79, Friday, October 13, 2017 at Effingham Care Center.

The Sutherland, VA native was a 1957 Halifax County Consolidated High School graduate. After graduation, Randall joined the US Air Force and received training as an engine maintenance technician, allowing him to be stationed at Hunter Air Force Base. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked at Savannah Machine & Foundry before serving forty years as a conductor on the mainline for the CSX Railroad.

Randall was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple and a member of the Acacia Lodge # 452. He enjoyed making furniture, canes, toys, that he frequently gave away. He also enjoyed growing camellias (giving many to neighbors and friends), attending railroad motor car events, and attending bluegrass festivals. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Randall Carter.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Clara Exley Carter; children, Matthew Lee Carter (Penny) and Sharon Carter Crosby (Joey); brothers, Sam Carter (Betty) and John Paul Carter (Deborah); grandchildren, Paul Carter, Josh Carter, Melissa Carter, Spencer Carter, Kaley Carter, Cameron Crosby, Casey Crosby, Conner Crosby, and Courtney Crosby; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 4-6 pm Sunday, October 15, 2017 in the funeral home.

Funeral: 11 am Monday, October 16, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.

Interment: Effingham Memorial Gardens
