Mr. Ratchford P. "Buck" Buckner
Guyton-Mr. Ratchford P. "Buck" Buckner, 89, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at The Place at Pooler.
Buck was born in Lanier, GA and served his country in the U.S. Navy for 23 years where he retired as a Machinist Mate Chief. During his service, Buck served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. After discharge from the U.S. Navy, Buck and his family moved back to Meldrim, GA from San Diego, CA. After returning to Georgia, Buck was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 13 years serving on the dredge, Henry Bacon. Buck was a member of Zion Lutheran Church as well as a member of the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge 116.
Buck is survived by his wife, Violet, of 63 years; daughters, Rene' (John) Atkinson and Cindy (Dave) Kidd; grandchildren, Jamie (friend-Lisa Butler) Atkinson, Mitzi (Kenny) Salter, Whitney Dasher (friend-Jason Wadsworth), Anson (Lindsey) Dasher; two great-grandchildren, Stacy Atkinson and Mason Salter; sister-in-law, Barbara Jenkins, a host of nieces and nephews and special friend, Frank Miller.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church located at 121 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton, GA. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim with full military honors.
