Clyo – Ray Darwin Webb, Jr., 63 passed away peacefully on June 26, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children in the home that he built and filled with love for his family. Darwin fought a courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma.
Darwin, born September 9, 1957 grew up in Springfield, Georgia, and graduated from Effingham County High School in 1975. In 1979 he received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Southern College. Darwin met and married his college sweetheart, Vicky, on June 28, 1980.
Darwin was an avid softball player, fisherman and hunter. For years he played on the church softball team and later began playing with many of his friends on the B & B Softball traveling team. You could often find him during hunting season in Clyo with his lifelong friend Al Allen.
Outside of loving his family, Darwin's greatest passion was his work. He began his working career as the manager of the Springfield Feed and Seed Store, later opening the Springfield Yard and Garden Shop all owned by his father. Darwin later ventured out and started his own business Coastal Grass and Landscape. Darwin spent many hours on the weekends building fences and tending cattle on the farm his father had purchased. His love for the land and growing things grew stronger as he grew older. In 1995, Darwin moved his family from Ash Street in Springfield to the farm near Clyo. He began planting pecans for harvest and a wide variety of trees to use in his business. Darwin was famous on many road construction jobs around the southeast as "the man who could get grass to grow anywhere!"
