Mr. Raymond "Ray" Dasher, 72, of Meldrim, GA, passed away after a long battle with asbestosis on Friday, December 10, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Ray was born in Savannah, GA to James O. Dasher and Lorene Towles Dasher. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doyle H. Dasher and Maude Conaway Dasher, Raymond L. Towles, Sr. and Lottie "Baba" Kessler Dasher. The family moved from Pooler to Ludowici, back to Pooler, then to Marlow. He graduated from Mercer Junior High School in 1964, from Effingham County High School in 1967, and from Draughons Junior College in 1979 with two degrees in business. He joined the Naval Reserve, and his active duty was on the USS Walworth County LST 1164. Ray married Kathy Denmark in 1969, moved to Meldrim, and had two sons, James Michael and David Joshua Dasher. He worked at Savannah Machine and Shipyard, Industrial Supplies of Georgia, Flo-Control, and he opened Dasher Industrial Supply Company with his father. He left the company to work for Global Crane, Inc. as a crane inspector (California) and crane instructor (New Hampshire). He later returned to sales at Industrial Valve, Fleming Supply, Harley Valve, Flowserve, and subsequently rejoined his father at Dasher Hoist and Crane. He later started PK Water Systems with his wife Kathy. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Braves and Falcons with his sons, playing Keno, and visiting with his friends down at the station. Ray loved to meet and talk to people, and he was known locally as Mr. Ray.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Denmark Dasher; two sons, James Michael (Rebecca) and David Joshua; sister, Terry Sexton; four nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral and burial will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
