Obituary
R.D. Kent, 68, of Pooler, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18th.
He was born on March 8, 1945 in Fairfield, AL to the late Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Kent and Eddie Arthur Kent. He graduated from Bessemer High School in Bessemer, AL in 1964. From 1964-1968 he served in the United States Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of E5. He served one tour in Vietnam. He received a BA in sociology from Lee College in 1972. He received a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from UGA in 1978.
R.D. was a Chief Parole Officer with the Department of Pardons and Paroles in the Savannah Office for the State of Georgia. He was also a commercial artist where he produced many sign art products throughout the Savannah area. He had an appreciation for the arts. He was a very talented painter, sculptor, cartoonist, and illustrator. He was a devoted fan of the University of Alabama football team. He was also an avid reader, and an antique car enthusiast. He was a member of Life Spring Worship Center. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
R.D. is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gail Royal Kent; a daughter, Nicole Rachel Kent of Savannah, GA; a son, Christopher Ryan Kent (Rebecca) of Baltimore, MD; 4 granddaughters, Abigail Rachel Bell, Megan Renee Bell, Morgan Rose Bell, all of Savannah and Bailey Juliette Kent of Baltimore; 1 grandson on the way; 4 sisters, Reba Jane Kent Fleming, Margaret Edwina Kent GoldKuhl, Ann Kent Lively and Rosemary Kent Minyard, 3 brothers, Johnny Kent, Carey Kent and Allen Kent; mother-in-law, Rachel S. Royal of Port Wentworth; 2 brothers-in-law, James W. Royal, Sr. of Richmond Hill and Ronald A. Royal (Nita) of Rincon; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Smoky Mountain Children's Home, P.O. Box 4391, Sevierville, TN 37864-4391.
