ORANGE PARK, FLORIDA
REMER ELLIS BLAND
Remer "Ellis" Bland of Orange Park, Florida, peacefully passed away on
Thursday, November 11, 2021at Haven Hospice after suffering from several
strokes and dementia.
Born in Savannah, GA on August 22, 1944, to Remer and Mattie Odell Smiley
Bland. He was a 1962 Graduate of Robert W. Groves High School and attended
Bolen Draughon's Business College in Savannah. He served his country in the Air
National Guard and retired from CSX Railroad after 44 years of service. After
retirement from the railroad, he started Ellis Bland Construction and was licensed
to build residential and commercial. However, remodeling was his passion. He
enjoyed taking the old and making it new and updated. He also enjoyed going on
many mission trips, with his church, First Baptist of Orange Park and with Liberty
Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, FL.
Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Robert E. Hartman of
Greenbriar, TN.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, JoAnn DeWitt Bland, of Orange Park, FL;
Sons, John E. (Mary) Bland of Spartanburg, SC; Brian D. Bland of Clayton, NC;
Dustin B. (Kimberly) Bland of Green Cove Springs, FL and stepson, Clifton J.
Fortner of Brooklet, GA.; His grandchildren, Lindsay (Jonathan) Jackson, Jessica
Bland (Jeremy Bennett), Nicholas (Makayla) Bland, Megan (Gordon) Foster,
Laurel, Bryant, Joanna and Dylan Bland, and step granddaughter, Anna Fortner; 10
great grands: Madison, Mason, Hudson, Tucker, Emmett, Harper, Penelope,
Emma, Ethan and Oliver, his sister: Patricia Ann Hartman of Greenbriar, TN, as
well as nieces and nephews and the mother of his sons, John and Brian; Carol
Cook Ratliff of Milledgeville, GA.
The visitation will be on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at the funeral home.
The graveside funeral and burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
