Ret. Tech Sgt. Weldon Eugene Barnes, 79, of Pooler, Georgia passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Pruitt Health-Seaside.

Weldon was born in Savannah and grew up in Port Wentworth.  He attended Chatham High School and was one of the first students of Robert W. Groves High School.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bedwell Barnes, his parents, Edward and Ruth Knight Barnes, as well as two brothers, J.W. Barnes and James Barnes.  He served his country in the United States Army.  He served two tours in Vietnam, the first with the Army, the second with the Navy.  He served with the Big Red One-Engineering Division.  He served in the 117th Tactical Squadron on Hunter Army Airfield with the Georgia National Guard.  He retired from International Paper.  He loved to travel, especially with his kids and grandkids to Disney and the mountains.  Weldon will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Barnes; son and daughter-in-law, Brad Barnes (Kim); grandchildren, Michael Barnes (Desire) and Ellie Barnes; sister, Arnita Lawrence (Eugene-deceased), as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The memorial service to honor Weldon's life will be at Radiant Life Church located at 5619 Skidaway Road in Savannah on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 10 a.m.  The family will receive friends from 9:15 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the church.  A private family entombment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 8819 U.S. Highway 301 in Glennville, Georgia with military honors.
