Richard Scott Braddock of Port Wentworth, Georgia transitioned from this life to the next on July 9, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. Rick, as he was known to everybody, was born in Bahia, Brazil on April 30, 1944 to State Department Foreign Service Officer Daniel M. Braddock and his wife Virginia. He was the last of their five children. The others were Daniel M. Braddock, Jr., John L. Braddock, Carolyn A. Braddock and Edward S. Braddock. Growing up, Rick lived in several countries besides Brazil: Spain, the Philippines, Burma, and Cuba. Between State Department postings the family resided in Bethesda, Maryland. Rick served honorably in the Marine Corps from June 1963 to June 1967 and the Air Force from December 1967 to December 1971. During his time in the Marine Corps he served a tour in Chu Lai, Vietnam. Among medals collected were the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his military service, he pursued a career in Aerospace Avionics, first working with Grumman American (1972-1978) and later with Gulfstream Aerospace Aviation (1978-2003), where he retired. Rick was an avid fisherman and loved sports, both engaging in them (i.e. poker, pool, chess, table tennis, and horseshoes) and watching them, in particular professional baseball and football. He and his wife Nettie hosted many Super Bowl and World Series parties that were the stuff of legend. Late in life Rick took up coin collecting and trading, devoting considerable time to this hobby, to which he was totally committed. To all who knew him at all closely, Rick was a considerate, generous person and a beautiful soul. You were never a stranger in his home or left hungry or thirsty; friends quickly became family. Rick enjoyed life to the fullest and enriched the lives of all around him. He leaves behind a huge void but a lasting legacy of love. Rick was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nettie, his parents, Daniel and Virginia Braddock, and brother John Braddock. He is survived by his daughter, Julie-Ann Braddock Hendley, son-in-law, Raymond Scott Hendley, granddaughters Aubrey Marie Braddock Kerby and Zoie Marie Hendley, great-grandson Braxton Mitchell Carter, brothers Daniel Braddock, Jr., and Edward Braddock, sister Carolyn B. Palma, and sister-in-law Linda Glover. In lieu of flowers in Rick's memory, please consider donation to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or your favorite charity. Thomas C.
