Obituary

Mr. Richard Chilen, of Port Wentworth, died suddenly on October 4th. He was born October 1, 1949 in Salina, Kansas to the late Nels and Gladys Barnwell Chilen. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine, his daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Hal Richards, and his adoring granddaughters, Abby and Catie Richards. He leaves behind four sisters, Linda (Gary) Arms, Debbie (Mike) Roberts, Cathy (Allen Joe) Brannen, and Susan (Mark) Dobson; one brother, Roger (Angie) Chilen, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was a 40 year accident-free employee of Georgia Ports Authority and was due to receive recognition upon his retirement in January for never having used a sick day. He was a humble man with uncompromising character. The visitation will be on Saturday, October 15th from 11:30 until 1:30 at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Pooler with the graveside funeral and burial following at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery located at 1336 Dean Forest Road in Garden City.
