Richard Morris Hilton, 78, of Clyo, Georgia, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.
Richard was born on February 19, 1948, in Portland, Maine, to Byrle Arlene Hilton and Arthur Winthrop Hilton Jr., who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Hilton III.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Hilton Parr (James); his granddaughter, Faith Kathleen Parr; and his brothers, Robert Hilton, Stephen Hilton, and Dale Hilton.
Richard graduated from South Portland High School, where he was a standout football player. He went on to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and laying the foundation for a lifelong career in aviation.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army for over 32 years, retiring with the rank of Major. A highly skilled and decorated helicopter pilot, he completed multiple tours in Vietnam, demonstrating extraordinary courage and commitment. Over the course of his military career, he earned numerous honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star, among many others. Following his active duty service, he continued to serve as a helicopter pilot instructor and in the Army Reserves.
He had a deep respect for his country and the Army, which remained a defining part of his life. Outside of his service, he enjoyed reading, Pat’s Pizza, Snoopy, and watching the Boston Red Sox—especially when they won.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to a veterans organization of your choice.
