Rita Petit Dupont
Springfield - Rita Petit Dupont, 89, passed away July 2nd, 2015, at the Effingham Care Center, Springfield, GA.
She was born January 1, 1926, in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Ludovic and Donalda Petit. She held the honor of being the first born in Waterbury on New Year's Day in 1926.
Predeceased by her husband Gerard and several sisters and a brother, she is survived by her children - Lucille Tillotson (Larry), Pensacola, FL; Roger Dupont (Kathie) Sun City, AZ; Yvette Carr (Pat) Rincon, GA; and Raymond Dupont (Tracy) Plymouth, CT; and one sister, Lorraine Mailloux, Tamarac, FL. She leaves behind six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She and Gerard made their home in Waterbury until 1986. After Rita retired from Waterbury Companies, she and Gerard moved to Palm Bay, FL, where they lived until 2007. They then moved to Richmond Hill, GA where she remained until her recent illness. She was very active in The Shrine of St. Anne and continued with that volunteer spirit when she and Gerard moved to Florida, where she was known as the Doll Lady – refurbishing dolls donated to a local thrift shop.
We wish to thank the staff at Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill, Comfort Keepers in Savannah, and the staff at Effingham Care Center, all of whom treated her like family.
Visitation will be 10 am, Monday, July 13th, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Springfield, GA followed by the funeral at 11 am and a reception afterwards.
A memorial service will be held in Waterbury, CT in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Anne Building Fund (Richmond Hill, GA) or the St. Boniface Building Fund (Springfield, GA).
