Garden City-Mr. R.L. "Lester" Bacon, Jr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Bacon was born in Savannah to the late Rufus Lester Bacon, Sr. and Janette Roach Bacon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Penny Exley Bacon and a step-son, Wayne Exley. He grew up in church and was currently a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Pooler where he sang with the worship team. He enjoyed playing, learning and singing with quartets. He enjoyed antique cars and was a truck farmer. He retired from CSX Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jordan Bacon; son, R.L. Bacon, III (Barbara); two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Stokes (Grady); step-daughters, Evette Miller, Cheryl Knight, Marsha Lepley (Buzz) and Nancy Barrett (Tom); step-son, DeWayne Jordan (Dede) and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and cousins.
The funeral to honor Mr. Bacon's life was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Buck Ormston and Rev. Dan Webber officiating. Pallbearers were Brent Long, Matthew Long, Zachary Long, DeWayne Jordan, Jr., B.J. Edenfield and Bryan Leply.
