Robert "Bobby" Bennett
Rincon – Robert "Bobby" Bennett, 74, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Bobby was born on December 21, 1937 in Sylvania, GA and graduated from Sylvania High School. Bobby was a member of the original Lions Club of Effingham County since 1980. He retired from Union Camp after 20 years of service and then self-employed for over 30 years with Bennett Drywall.
Bobby LOVED to fish, hunt, garden, cook for large family and friends gatherings, and hosted the fish fries at the Ratchford's for over 40 years. He was a member of the Rincon United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, was a member of the "McDonald's Morning Coffee Social Club" as well as "Rahn's Pond Social Club".
He was preceded in death by his father, LeHue Dorsey Bennett; mother, Hattie Bragg McBride, both from Screven County; step-mother, Fannie Bennett; son, Austin "Buddy" Rogers; grandchildren,
Lil Bobby Rogers, Mandi Allen, and Robbie Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Bennett; daughter, Monique Rogers of Rincon, son, Tony Bennett (Jill) of Hardeeville, SC, daughter, Melody Moore (Tom) of Rincon, son, Stevie Bennett (Rebecca) of Pineora, daughter, Tammy Burnsed (Corbin) of Ellabell; grandchildren, Jamie Sanders, Stacy Rogers Varney, Matthew Rogers, Michael Garrett Rogers, AnnaLeesa Rogers, Justin Dyson, Dena Sanchez, Dana Marshall, Josh Moore, Victoria & Paul Burke, Loren Bennett, Courtney Carson, Junior, Madison, Kayla, Katelyn, & Nathan Burnsed, & Stacy Elliott; great-grandchildren, Ashley Sanders, Taylor Marshall, Emily Sanchez, Annabell Sanchez, Maddox Varney, Destiny Burnsed, Lance Perkins, Abigail, Addison, & Madilynn Burnsed, & Khloe Mallard; siblings, sisters, Irene Bragg & Shirley Scott; brothers, LeHue Bennett & Nathan Bennett; & a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rincon United Methodist Church. Mr. Bennett will lie in state from 1 p.m. Rev. Carol Morgan will officiate. Pallbearers will be Larry Steese, Sonny Colley, Brian Burns, Warren Ratchford, Vernon Gordy, and Tony Wilson.
Interment will follow in Rincon Cemetery.
