Pooler-Mr. Robert Hillis Byrd, Sr., 75, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Candler Hospital.
Mr. Byrd was born in Savannah to the late James Alton & Mary Hillis Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Byrd. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler, but had attended Alpha United Methodist Church in Bloomingdale for the past two years. His great love was being a machinist, and retired as one from Kerr-McGee in 2002. After that he continued his passion by opening Byrd's Machine Shop, and was active working in his shop up until two days before his passing. He was a "Jack of All Trades", and was able to fix anything to perfection. His pride and joy was his grandkids, his 1965 Ford pick-up, and his immaculate machine shop
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lynn Byrd; children, Mary Otto (Paul), Joy Marshall, and Robert Hillis Byrd, Jr. (Shelly); grandchildren, Sam and Abigale Otto, Jacob and Anna Marshall, Sarah, Maggie and Tyler Byrd, Peyton and Hallie Cromwell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
