Port Wentworth, Robert Cecil Fields, 87, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
He was better known to his family and friends as Cecil: he was also lovingly called Dad and Papa by his children and grandchildren.
Cecil was born in Surrency, Georgia, on January 7, 1935. He later met and married his devoted wife of 68 years. Together they had three sons, Robert (Robbie) Richard (Rick) and Randall (Randy) Fields.
Cecil enjoyed sports, especially basketball. He thoroughly enjoyed hosting large family and friend gatherings at his favorite spot on the river in South Carolina.
Cecil retired from Union Camp after 43 years of service, following retirement he continued to work side by side with his wife in their rental property business. He served as a long-time member, past deacon and served on various committees at First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth, where he made many lifelong friendships.
Cecil is predeceased by his father, John Dukes Fields; his mother, Maggie Collins Fields; by his brothers, John H. Fields, and William F. Fields; and his sister, Vivian Fields Kelly; as well as their son, Richard M. Fields (Rick).
He is survived by his wife, Christine Fields; his sons, Robert "Robbie, Jr., (Patti), Randall "Randy" (Geri); nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 11:30 – 12:20 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth at 402 Pinehurst Place, Port Wentworth, GA 31407 and the funeral will follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West at 1336 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, GA 31405.
