Dr. Robert H. Moreland, Jr.

Guyton – Dr. Robert H. Moreland, Jr., 85, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Barwick, GA on January 19, 1929 to the late Rev. Robert Hamilton Moreland, Sr. and Laura Eloise Edenfield. He graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1957 and entered the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Captain after 30 years of service. Dr. Moreland started his private practice in 1960, served as Medical Director for Moss Oaks and Westview Nursing Homes, was a lifetime member of the GA Medical Society, and retired from Medical Practice in 2008 after 51 years. He was a charter member of Effingham Baptist Church. He had served on the Chatham County Board of Education from January 1, 1973 – January 1, 1975 and January 1, 1979 – January 1, 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine W. Moreland; children, David (Julie) Moreland, Mark Moreland, Missy Moreland, Ronald Nichols, Robin (Matt) Newman, Laura (Howard) Hodges, Robert Moreland, III; grandchildren, Joshua Moreland, Ashlyn Newman, Olivia Moreland, Kerrigan Newman, Cooper Moreland, Matthew Newman, Madelaine Hodges, and Jamie Hodges; brother, Alvin F. Moreland; sister-in-law, Kathy Moreland and was preceded in death by his brother, Edsel Moreland; and survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Effingham Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Effingham Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
