Robert Ponder Braswell

Guyton – Robert Ponder Braswell, 81, passed away April 4, 2026 at his residence.

The Richmond County native served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, he was in the Airborne Ranger Unit and then became a Drill Sergeant. He went on to work in retail management for many years and after retirement drove a school bus for Effingham County for 11 years which was his favorite work. He loved gardening and yard work, watching birds, loved the GA Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons, enjoyed watching Fox News, westerns, and listening to country music. He was a determined man who didn’t mind sharing his opinions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Braswell and Mattie Kate Garrett Braswell; his son, Brook Braswell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Alewine (Roy), June Busbee (Harold), and Jerry Long.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Braswell; children, Lee Braswell (Teresa) and DeeDee Morris (Bobby); daughter-in-law, Lynn Braswell; step-children, Kim Wood (David) and Traci Albanna (Mark); grandchildren, Amanda Lavin (Tom), Jon Braswell (Mandy), Scott Morris (Ashlee), Katie Morris (Josh), Tate Grimes (Gigi), Kristen Hint, Allyson Walker, and Bryan Grantham, Jr.; 5 great-grandchildren, sisters, Frances Long and Jedon Riggenbach; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the funeral home followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the chapel.

Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
