Ruben Edwin Shearouse
Guyton — Ruben Edwin Shearouse, 80, died Sunday, June 25, 2017.
Born and raised in Rincon, Ruben was a life-long resident of Effingham and Chatham counties. After graduating from Effingham High School in 1957, he moved to Port Wentworth and began work at GAF Roofing. He then worked in the shipping/receiving department at Gulfstream Aerospace, from where he retired after 26 years of service, before working post-retirement at Jendyk Enterprises in Port Wentworth for 13 years.
Ruben and his wife, Shirley, were married in 1957. He was enlisted in the U.S. National Guard for several years where he served in the motor pool. He was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church in Guyton. He was a kind, quiet, & gentle man who loved his family and had a passion for gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Rahn) Shearouse; their daughters, Sheryl Gilman (Richard) and Dianne Collins (Lamar); and their son, Richard Shearouse; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Nellie May Stubbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orites & Annie Mae Shearouse, his sisters, Nora Lee Carter, Billie Morgan, Shirley Anne Shearouse, and his brother, Phillip O. Shearouse.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Strickland Funeral Home in Springfield.
The funeral service and interment will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11 AM at Bethesda United Methodist Church on Midland Road in Guyton.
Remembrances may be given to Bethesda United Methodist Church Building Fund or charity of your choice.
