Pooler-Mr. Rufus "Sam" Mills, 85, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Mr. Mills was born in Emanuel County and lived in Pooler for the past 52 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomingdale and attended the Ben Stewart Sunday School Class. He coached Little League baseball and softball for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Neal Mills of Pooler; sons, Gary Mills (Gayle) of Pembroke, Wesley Mills (Kathy) of Eden and Raymond Mills (Debbie) of Pooler; brother, Jottie Mills of Massachusetts; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The visitation was froom 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the funeral home.
The funeral to honor Mr. Sam's life was at 12 noon on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Louis R. Pearce and Rev. Darrell Bailey officiating. Mrs. Ruth Linton and Mr. Gene Holland provided the music. Pallbearers were Tony Mills, Justin Mills, Chris Hinson, Mike Ortiz, Aaron Dudley, Shannon Nunn, Ryan Davis, Bryce Hinson and Ryan Hinson. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
