Clyo – Samuel Jay Bernhardt, III, 75, passed away August 28, 2017 at Heritage Inn in Statesboro, GA.
He was born in Charleston, SC and grew up in Savannah, GA. He was a Baptist and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, brother, and uncle. He served in the U.S. Marines, retired from International Paper, and after retirement enjoyed doing upholstery work at "Sam & Dolly's."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jay Bernhardt, Jr. and Margaret Crawford; and his loving wife of 42 years, Dolly Bernhardt.
Survivors include his sister, Marie Bernhardt Seymour (Craig) of Powder Springs; nieces, Sherrie Appleby (Doug) and Michelle Stotts (Chris); nephew, Jason Seymour (Tammy); sister-in-law, Marie Bailey (Doyle); niece, Tessa Beving (Phil); nephew, Jonathan Bailey; sister-in-law, Linda Jacob (Jake); niece, Erin Routh; nephew, Henry Bailey; 16 great-nieces and nephews; 5 great-great-nieces and nephews; and several loved cousins.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Clyo United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
