Samuel Bowman Edwards

Springfield – Samuel Bowman Edwards, 74, passed away March 31, 2019 at his residence after a long illness.

The Effingham County native was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran. He retired from ILA #2046 in 1998, was a Scottish Rite Free Mason, member of the Alee Shriners, was an avid farmer, member of the Southeastern Horseman Association, and the Savannah Harley Davidson group.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Dorsey Edwards and Wilma Gnann Edwards; brother,  Cordell Edwards; sister-in-law, Candace Peagler.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie Ward Edwards; step-son, Kenneth and Jennifer Meinhardt; granddaughter, Mason McKenley Meinhardt; brother, Willie and Tater Edwards; nephews, Tim and Annette Edwards and Michael and Tiffany Edwards; sisters –in-law and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Arthur Weil, Arthur Peagler, Steve and Joyce Ward, Beth Durden Smith and Terry, Mark and Lynette Ward; nieces and nephews, Eli Joiner, Jordan Peagler, Danielle Ward, Courtney Ward, Adrienne Durden Lino and Brandon, Lakelyn Ward, Ian Ward, Asher Ward, Anders Ward; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel.

Interment will be private.
