Bloomingdale-Mr. Samuel O. Slater, 85, transferred from this life into life with his Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness.

He was a native of Bulloch County. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired as a foreman from Kaiser Reliance Fertilizer Company after 18 years. He has been a devoted member of Alpha United Methodist Church for 50 years where he attended the Watson Davis Sunday School Class. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 27 years.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Samuel Wesley and Minnie Lee Slater, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife , Marion, of Bloomingdale, a son, John and his wife Jeanine Slater of Alaska, a daughter, Lucy Thompson and her husband Lee of Bluffton, SC., a step-daughter, Elizabeth Dean of Guyton, a sister, Ouida Conder of Pennsylvania, 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation 6 - 8 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral: 11 A.M. Thursday at Alpha United Methodist Church with entombment to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road.
