Mrs. Sandra Jo Maye Newman, 72, of Pooler, GA, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at her home.

Sandra Jo was born in Ocilla, GA to the late Joseph Franklin Maye and Dorothy Lucille Carmichael Maye.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Maye.  She grew up in the Fitzgerald, GA area, and even though she was only 5'3", she played forward her junior year for the Fitzgerald High School women's basketball team.  She had worked as a switchboard operator, and when she moved to the Savannah area in 1980 she became the owner/operator of Hair Trends in Savannah.  She was a member of the Savannah HOG LOH Chapter, Motor Maids – GA Chapter and was a motorcycle enthusiast.  She enjoyed cooking, doing crossword puzzles and helping people.  She loved her dogs, the outdoors and will be remembered for enjoying the time that she spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Phillip M. Newman; daughters, Linda Atkins and Lynn Ferrelli; grandchildren, Kyle Bieber (Haley) and Riley Ferrelli; brother, Allen Maye (Martha), as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the funeral home.  The celebration of Sandra Jo's life will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to the Hospice organization of the donor's choice.
