SFC Robert S. Holdren, United States Army, Retired
SFC Robert S. Holdren, Sr, United States Army, retired, 74, of Savannah and husband to the late Delores Simons Holdren, died June 13, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Holdren was born on April 18, 1940 to the late Walter Phillip and Janie Lowe Holdren. He was veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War, in which he served three tours of duty, and The Korean War. Mr. Holdren was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, The Army Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Capaign Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation. Mr. Holdren was known for being a master griller and his love for Nascar Racing and the Atlanta Braves. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and brother.
Surviving are his children, Robert S. Holdren II and his wife, Denise of Ellabel, Buffy Long and her husband, Kevin of Richmond Hill, and Michael Holdren and his partner, Robert of Savannah; grandchildren, Tiffany Wyatt, April Strickland and her husband, Tommy, Renee Hendrix, Emily Moore, and James Moore; his brothers, Sam Holdren and his wife, Nancy of Tampa, Fl, and James Holdren of Aiken, SC, his sisters, Anna Holdren and her husband, Don of Rand, WV, Robin Slack of Rand, WV, and Eleanor Yager of McHenry, Ill.; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Sue Kirk Hudnall who was like a sister to him; his longtime companion and friend, Helen Sandoval; and his dog Charlie.
Visitation: 10 - 11am Wednesday at the funeral home
Funeral: 11 am Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment: 3pm Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
Family and friends will gather in the Woodlawn Baptist Church Social Hall in Garden City following the interment.
