Thunderbolt – Sherley Wendell "S.W." Burns, 74, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Memorial Health.
The Effingham County native graduated from Springfield Academy in 1955 and then A.B.A.C. He was a former Springfield City Councilman, member of the Springfield Lions Club. He loved boating aboard Queen B II, and spending days on the beach at Hilton Head Island with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Lamar Burns and Nadine Graham Burns, and brother, L.A. Burns.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Johnson Burns of Thunderbolt; two children and spouse, Tina Ann and Stacy Briggs of Guyton, and Terrence Burns of Savannah; one granddaughter, Samantha Ann and Chris Black of Guyton; great-granddaughters, Madison and Macy Black of Guyton; sister-in-law, Walton Burns of Rincon; nieces and nephew, M. Michele Burns of New York, Bonnie J. Burns of Atlanta, John and Julie Burns of Guyton, Caroline and Doug Morgan of Rincon.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Springfield.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
