Heaven gained a beautiful angel, Sherry Gail Gordon, on September 7, 2026. Her unexpected death will forever leave an empty space in the hearts of her loved ones. Sherry was a treasured wife, mother, granny, great-granny, daughter, sister, and aunt.

She was the center of her family’s world and provided immeasurable love. She was married to the man of her dreams, Cecil R. Gordon Sr., for over 30 years. Together they built a life that others could only wish for. It was a life built on trust, dedication, and pure love. Cecil devoted his life to showering Sherry with affection. The kind you find in the movie “The Notebook” and the song “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

Her daughters, Rachel Gail Jackson New (Patrick J. New) and April Nicole Jackson, adored their amazing mother. She continuously taught them life lessons such as self-value, respect, sympathy, faith, honesty, empathy, and to live without jealousy of others. She taught them to be kind, thankful, and giving. She demonstrated how to be an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Although her shoes were very small, her daughters are having a hard time filling one of them. Sherry raised the bar high.

Her grandchildren, Gabrielle Rachel New Fielding (Tanner), Brianna Gail New Ebinger (Austin), Devin Zaire Wright, Ashlyn Nicole Addison, and step-grandson, Justin Patrick New (Brianna) let their mothers know Granny was the best at everything! Cooking, holiday gifts, surprises, and taking care of them when they were sick are just a few categories her daughters did not win. They are close, but still behind the master. Sherry’s great grands, Chesnie Lynn New, Kyndal Laine New, Claudia Roslyn Ebinger, Valerie Gail Ebinger, and Tatum Rachel Fielding will miss the impact that their great-granny’s love and support would have flourished their lives with as their futures reveal themselves.

Her siblings, Linda Diane Gaviola, Jesse Carrol Martin, Cindy Lynn Caldwell, and Mary Ellen Weeks, will feel the emptiness in their circle. They loved Sherry and treasured her friendship, advice, and opinion when it came to decisions and life obstacles. They shared an abundance of laughs and tears through their life journeys.

Disbelief and Confusion are evident within her family. A loss so great has devastated them, only God can heal their pain.

Sherry Gail Gordon was laid to rest on September 10, 2026. She had a family Christian service at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Homes Effingham Chapel followed by her burial at Effingham Memorial Gardens. Sherry will forever and always remain her family’s Sunshine.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Mary Willer Martin, and her sister, Sandra Elaine Southerland.
