Sheryl Leigh Heard, 64, of Pooler, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
A Memorial Service to honor her life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Compassion Christian Church, 55 Al Henderson Blvd., Savannah, Georgia. Sheryl was born October 24, 1958 in Houston, Texas to Charles Leigh, Jr. and the former Nancy Doom. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Sharpstown High School. After obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston, she obtained her CPA certification. She later completed a Masters in Education, also from the University of Houston. During her time there, she was active in the mascot Cougar Guard. Sheryl worked as a public accountant, the CFO for Coastal Bank, and finally as the Financial/Office Manager for Clinton Industries. She married Stephen Heard in 1996. They were married for 26 years and have 3 beautiful children.
Sheryl was a loving wife and mother. She was an active volunteer in her children's schools. She was also active in her church, where she served in the prayer and children's ministries and led a small group. She was a diligent student of God's Word. Sheryl was well known by her friends and family for her kind and generous heart.
Sheryl is survived by her husband Stephen; children, Christopher, Allison (fiancé Elijah Oakes), and Lauren; granddaughter, Aliyah Oakes, all of Pooler, Georgia; father, Charles Leigh, Jr. (Candy); mother, Nancy Cahill; siblings, Charles Leigh, III (Shannon), all of Houston, Texas, Wendy Thomas (Ron) of Dallas, Texas, and Tim Schubert (Cindy) of Smithville, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Barry Cahill of Houston, Texas. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at both Summit Cancer Care, Savannah and MD Anderson, Houston who provided excellent treatment and care for Sheryl during the past 2 years.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Compassion Christian Church on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 8:00am until the time of service at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MD Anderson at gifts.mdanderson.org.
