Shirley Pevey Bevill

Shirley Pevey Bevill, age 86, passed away on January 1, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Shirley, the epitome of a gracious Southern lady, was born on November 9, 1932 in Guyton, Georgia. She graduated from Effingham Academy High School in Springfield, Georgia. She married Lovett Bevill of Kildare, Georgia in 1953 and they were married for 41 years.

For 32 years Shirley was employed by Savannah Foods and Industries Dixie Crystal Sugar in the finance department. After retirement she lived in Tybee Island, Georgia. In 1998, she moved to Statesboro, Georgia where she was an active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Colonist and also volunteered with the American Red Cross for ten years. In 2012, Shirley moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida to be closer to her son and family. She was a loyal Atlanta Braves & University of Georgia football sports fan!

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lovett Bevill, Sr.; her parents, Ashley and Lucille Pevey; a sister, Dorothy Nell Pevey Lewis; two brothers, Rodney Ashley Pevey and Alfred Staley Pevey.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Jerry Anne Pevey Singletary (Tom), Statesboro, GA; by two sister-in-laws, Eva Belle Pevey Springfield, GA and Margie Pevey, Statesboro, GA; and a son, Thomas Lovett Bevill, Jr. (Melanie), Jacksonville Beach, FL. Also surviving are Shirley's beloved grandchildren; Richard Hogle (Andrea), Dallas, TX, Garrett Bevill, Dallas, TX, Katharine Marsh (Ryan), Jacksonville, FL, and Madison Bevill, Jacksonville Beach, FL. Additionally, Shirley was blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Brody, and Berkley Hogle and newborn great-grandson, Channing Marsh.

A Memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Jimmy Cason at Mizpah United Methodist Church in Clyo, GA at 1 pm Friday, January 18, 2019. Remembrances may be made to Mizpah UMC, Statesboro First UMC, or the Guyton Christian Church.
