Shirley Sue Smith Bevill
September 27, 1935-October 27, 2026
Shirley Sue Smith Bevill passed out of the life into eternal life on October 27, 2026, at her home, in Rincon, Georgia, after a lengthy illness. She was 91 years old. She was born in Clyo, Georgia to the late Helen Master Smith (mother) and William Wyburg Smith, Sr, (dad), where she met her husband, the late Beymer Bevill, Sr., They were married on February 6, 1953, and moved to Savanah, GA., After the birth of their children, they moved from Savannah to Rincon, GA, where they lived and raised a family, up until Beymer’s death October 14, 1990.
Throughout her life, she stayed busy working or volunteering. Besides being homemaker, Shirley and her husband owned and operated a Dry Cleaners and Laundromat, which became a family business. After the children were grown, they decided to sell the business. Other employments ranged from being AVON representative to cleaning homes and businesses. In her personal time, she enjoyed socializing and having people over for coffee and cake or one of the many desserts she was known for. Spending time with her family was a special time for her. The family spent many weekends camping at the river. While everyone else was having fun either boating, fishing, or hunting, she would be seen busy cleaning (which she loved to do!) or preparing a feast of fried catfish, okra, cornbread, and fries. She was able to make a feast of very few items.
Mom was well known as “Miss Shirley” throughout Effingham County, and she knew everyone! She enjoyed spending time in her yard, taking care of her flowers and vegetables in her garden up, until she had to stop due to mobility issues.
She is survived by her four children- Beymer Bevill, Jr. (Bim) & wife Kerstin in Fuquay-Varina., NC, William (Billy) & wife Cindy in Chesapeake, VA, Daniel (Danny) Bevill & wife Charley in Crosby, TX, and Helen Bevill Sikes in Rincon, GA. and several grandchildren & great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Wilena Smith Roper (husband Richard Loper) of Clyo, Ga.
Shirley was a long-time member of the Rincon United Methodist Church in Rincon, Ga.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am on November 21, 2026 with Shirley’s Pastor presiding, at the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Laurel Hill Lutheran Church in Clyo, GA.
