March 18, 1954 – June 9, 2022
Pooler, Shirley Beth McDonald Bamburg, 68, passed away June 9, 2022, at Candler Hospital with her family at her side.
The Savannah native grew up and lived on the banks of the Savannah Ogeechee Canal on the property once owned by her great grandparents. Shirley loved to fish, collect and repair porcelain dolls, and tinker with watches. When her children were young, she was the classroom mother and PTA Worker at Gould Elementary. She was the softball and baseball team support parent and received plaques and trophies for her work. She started off working in the food industry at a very young age as a waitress and eventually became the operator of The Yogurt House for many years.
Shirley a was a member of Central Baptist Church in Garden City and in some of the best years of her life she worked with her sister and best friend, Carolyn, teaching in the Girls in Action Mission Organization, teaching young girls about missions, which brought her great joy.
Mrs. Bamburg was preceded in death by her husband, Hickman L. Bamburg, JR, her parents, Harrie Earl McDonald, SR and Sarah Helen Barrow McDonald, sisters, Sarah Carolyn McDonald Buttersworth, Nancy Earleen McDonald O'Brien, a brother-in-law, Raymond O'Brien, a son, Hickman L. "Trey" Bamburg, III.
Survivors include children, Brian Bamburg (Brandi); Kim Bamburg Long (Tommy); 2 sisters, Sherry McDonald Harrelson (Bro. Kenny); Brenda McDonald Collins (Jesse); one brother, Harrie Earl McDonald, JR (Barbara); grandchildren, Bracen Bamburg; Baylon Bamburg, C.J. B. McCluskey, Chelsea B. Rice, Ryan Smith, and David Cole Jacobs; great-grandchild, Haven Smith, Ryan Smith, JR. and special friend, Patti Jacobs.
She will be missed and cherished by a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many cousins.
A vistation service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022, in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Elkins Cemetery.
