Savannah-Stacy D. Atkinson was born on March 3, 1999 and passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at home among family and friends.
Survivors include her mother, Terre L. Carter (Dennis "Buddy") of Savannah; father, Jamie C. Atkinson (Lisa C.) of Monroe; step-sister, Stacey Carter of Pensacola, FL; step-brothers, Christopher Carter of Savannah, Perry and Benjamin Butler, both of Monroe; grandparents, Douglas & Wilma Gunn of Savannah and John & Rene' Atkinson of Guyton; step-grandparents, Ed & Maudene Graham of Guyton; great-grandmothers, Violet Buckner of Guyton and Helen L. Asbell of Meldrim; aunts, uncles and cousins, Michael Boyles (Ileana), Elizabeth "Lizzie" and Sean of Miami, FL; Dawn Holton (Carl), C.J., Carter, and Sarah of Guyton; Mitzi Salter (Kenny) and Mason of Statesboro.
Stacy was born with a rare chromosome abnormality and had many struggles in her life. We were blessed to have had her in our lives for longer than expected. She was a fighter and fought the good fight until her body could no more. During Stacy's short life, she taught us the meaning of unconditional love and that miracles abound in all aspects of our life. When she smiled it included her eyes. She always had a way of snuggling with the one's she loved. She overcame many obstacles to eventually walk around her school and visit with her classmates for two wonderful years. She will be forever missed and loved by her family and her friends.
The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Barbara Koch officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Boyles, Sean Boyles, Christopher Carter, Anson Dasher, Carl Holton and Jason Wadsworth. Stacy will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
