Pooler-Mr. Theron C. Chapman, Sr., 95, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Mr. Theron was born in Greene County, GA to the late William & Evie Chapman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Clyde G. Chapman, whom he married on September 2, 1945 (VJ Day), and a son, Richard Lee Chapman. He was a member of Pooler First Baptist Church, and enjoyed the outdoors, and woodworking. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the LST310 where he was a carpenters mate, and was known as "Chips". After his military service in the 1950's, he started Chapman's Cabinet Shop, working until he was 82 years old. He was known for his work ethic, and had a great love for his family, friends, and the Lord. "What a father says to his children is not heard by the world, but it will be heard by posterity".
Survivors include his son, Theron C. Chapman, Jr. "Buddy", and his wife, Mary Jo; daughter-in-law, Sandra D. Chapman; grandchildren, Angela Kerby (Frankie), Jennifer Chapman, Melisa Fennell (Will), James Chapman, and Nicholas Chapman (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Matty Kerby, Sarah Kerby, and Keira Fennell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Newton Cemetery.
