Thomas E. Carr
Springfield – Thomas E. Carr, 93, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Effingham Hospital.
Born February 21, 1918 in Columbus, OH, Mr. Carr moved to Springfield in 1985 where he was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church. He retired from Central Ohio Cooperative Milk Producers, INC as a Field Man Inspector and farmed for many years.
He was an avid traveler and camper over all of North America including the entire continental U.S., Alaska, and Canada. He also was a gardener, birdwatcher, trophy-winning canoeist, crossword-puzzler, basketmaker, and teacher. He was an Adult Scouter for 30 years and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank M. Carr and Luella Delashmutt Carr, and wife of 62 years, Katherine Ogden Carr.
Survivors include his children, Steven ( Mary Jane) Carr of Galena, OH, Rebecca (Danny) Thomas of Springfield, and Sara (Russ) Berry of Savannah; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and longtime companion, Abbie Utz.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
Remembrances may be given to Springfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Springfield, GA 31329.
