Faulkville-Mr. Thomas Edward Long, Sr., 72, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Long was a member of the Powers Baptist Church and the Guyton Masonic Lodge. He retired from Union Camp and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting. He also enjoyed dirt track and Nascar racing. He enjoyed attending Oglethorpe Speedway Park where he was voted Fan of the Year.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Peavy Long; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Tricia Long; daughter and son-in-law, Kim & Greg Johnson; grandchildren, Austin Long & Bethany Long, Brandy Youngblood, Brittany Johnson, Taylor Johnson and Mallory Johnson; great-grandson, Zachary Johnson; mother, Elma Long Smith; sister, Uldean Hope; aunts, Daisy Brown and Mary Eva Wendelken and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mr. Long will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the funeral home.
The funeral to honor Mr. Long's life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Powers Baptist Church, located at 1104 Highway 80 in Eden. Rev. Travis Cowart and Rev. Derward Poole will officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Leslie Peavy, Reggie Sapp, Jerry Lanier, Kenneth Tapley, Martin Collins and Walter Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Powers Baptist Church Seniors Group. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bloomingdale with Masonic Rites courtesy of the Guyton Masonic Lodge.
