POOLER – Thomas L. White, 84, Passed away Tuesday December 29 th , surrounded by family.
Tommy was born in Savannah, Ga on June 2 nd 1936 to Thomas and Dorothy Linderman White. He was a lifelong resident of "OLD" Pooler. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pooler for 56 years. Appointed Deacon in 1968 and Chairman of Deacons; 2006-2007.
Growing up, many of his days were spent delivering groceries for customers of the family's local grocery store, White's Grocery of Pooler. Tommy graduated class of 1954 from Benedictine Military School. In March of 1955, Tommy enlisted in the United States Air Force. He reached Chief Master Sergeant, in the Georgia Air National Guard before retiring after 37 years of dedicated service, in 1991.
Tommy met and married the love of his life, his precious princess, Ann, on December 30 th 1956. Ann was his every reason, every hope and every dream. Ann was his everything!
After having girls of his own, Tommy was instrumental in starting the girls' softball program at the Pooler Recreation. Tommy had the joy of coaching innumerable young kids throughout the years, and he loved every one of them.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Ann P. White and daughter Amy N. White.
Survivors include his beloved Daughters, Stacey Ann and Daryl McCorkle, and Cynthia Lee and Michael Grizzard; Cherished grand and great-grand Children, Christopher and Sarah Lewis, their son and daughter, Grant and the apple of his eye Eva Ann, Paige Lewis and her son Eli, Joshua Michael Grizzard and Zachary and Jennifer Grizzard, and his adopted children, Shelly Cliffton and family and several nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
The visitation will be on Friday, January 1 st from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home located at 901 W. Hwy. 80 in Pooler. All CDC and social distancing guidelines will be in place, including the wearing of masks (Chatham County Mandate).
The funeral will be on Saturday, January 2 nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Pooler First Baptist Church located at 204 U.S. Hwy. 80. Mr. Tommy will lie in state from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Rev. Jason Rowe and Rev. Richard Collins will officiate. The active pallbearers will be Ernie Gainey, David Clifton, Tommy McCorkle, Wallace Blackstock, Damon Grainger, and Bentley Smith. The honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and Deacons Emeritus of Pooler First Baptist Church.
