Springfield – Varnie C. Wilson, 89, passed away April 14, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.

The Effingham County native was a member of Grace Community Church where he was an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher.  He also taught a men's Bible Study for over 20 years.  He retired from being an Insurance Agent at the age of 85 with over 50 years of service.  He enjoyed gardening and farming, but his greatest joy was being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Dreta Wilson.

Varnie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Priscilla Wilson; daughter, Monique (Drew) Boyd, and their children, Bethany (Daniel) Chernich and Aaron (Misha) Boyd; son, Todd (Elouise) Wilson and his daughter Tori Baumann; daughter, Gina (Scott) Bass and their daughters, Sarah (Zachary) White and Rachel Bass; daughter, Terra (Rusty) Dasher and their children, Russ (Joanna) Dasher, Jillian Dasher, Connor (Valerie) Dasher, Jacob Dasher, and Parker (Elizabeth) Dasher; daughter, Dana (Rodney) King and their daughters, Abbey King, Amber King, Brittany King, and Brianna (Devin) Stefanski; and son, Trevor (Kim) Wilson and their children, Zachary (Jenna) Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Tucker Wilson, and Marlina Wilson; as well as 18 great-grandchildren.  Varnie is survived by his brothers, Charles Wilson and  Wendel (Patricia) Wilson, and his sister, Rachel (Ellis) Wilson.  He also has numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2025, at Grace Community Church.  Mr. Wilson will lie in state from 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
