Garden City – Mrs. Verlie Bridgforth, 92, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Westview Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of Savannah.
Born on January 27, 1919 in Swainsboro, she moved to Savannah after schooling and worked at Hunter Field during WWII and then to Union Bag. She married James Bridgforth on August 31, 1938 and was his wife until he passed away in 2002. Their only child, Jerry was born in 1946. She was a homemaker from then on. Her hobbies were gardening, flowers, and having a beautiful yard. Verlie was also a mom to many of Jerry's friends during the 60's and early 70's. She was affectionately known as "Mrs. B" to all of them.
In recent years she enjoyed being a member of the Garden City Senior Citizens Center. She took trips with them and looked forward to each day so she could be with her senior friends and enjoy the fellowship. Her grandson, Allen and her two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Khloe were the apple of her eyes. Also her pet Daschund, Terry, III was a loving companion.
She had been a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Survivors include her son, Jerry (Linda); grandson, Allen (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Jackson and Khloe; step-granddaughter, Tammy Dent (Howie) and loving caretaker Lilian.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home.
