Obituary

Vernon Hathcock, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

Vernon was born in Portal, GA on July 10, 1938 to the late RT and Iverna Hathcock. He married the love of his life Edith Jones Hathcock in 1961. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his wife and family, but above all else he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Vernon worked at Union Camp until his retirement on December 30, 1995. After retirement he did consulting work with various paper mills across the United States and in Scotland. Vernon also farmed in Chatham and Effingham Counties beginning in the late 60's.

Vernon loved to hunt deer, dove, quail and raccoons. He enjoyed the time he spent riding his tractor while tending to his crops and caring for his livestock (pigs, cows, and goats). He loved gospel and bluegrass music and in his younger days sang in a gospel quartet. But his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith; his daughters, Kimberly Hathcock and Wendy Porter (Kevin); his son, Teddy Hathcock (Marlene); his grandchildren, Cameron Porter (Carli) and Allyson Porter; his great-grandson, Emory Porter; step-grandchildren, Brittany Tice (Chris) and Ryan Raymond (Autumn); his step-great-grandchildren, Lucy Tice and James Tice; his brother, Carol Hathcock (Sybil) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. Joseph Ratchford and the Regency Southern Care Hospice Services for their care, support and concern that was extended to the family during Vernon's illness.

Remembrances can be given to the Fellowship Bible Church in lieu of flowers.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
