Mr. Vernon L. "Sonny" Hodges, Jr., 88, of Port Wentworth, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Savannah and grew up in Screven County.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon L. Hodges, Sr. and Doris Sheppard Hodges, and a son-in-law, Tommy Tipton.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was employed with Continental Can and retired from Stone Container.  He loved working in his wood shop, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Faye Hodges; two daughters, Toni Davis (Mike) and Leslie Tipton; grandchildren, Amber Gonsalves (Mike), William Davis (Corrie), Marcus Davis, Amanda Sanders (Shane), and Jarrod Tipton (Ashley);  great-grandchildren, Caleb Gonsalves (Gabby), Luke Wendorf, Aaron Gonsalves, Emmaline Sanders, Avery Sanders, Piper Roderick, Nora Davis, and Leeya Davis; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Gonsalves and Elena Gonsalves; sister, Theresa Martin, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. on Monday, September 13 ^th at the First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth located at 402 Pinehurst Place, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church.  Burial will follow at Middleground Baptist Church Cemetery in Screven County.
