Mr. Virgil L. "Doc" Deal, 88, of Garden City, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Hospice Savannah.

He was born in Statesboro to the late Leonard & Willabell Aikens Deal.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Turner Deal; his son, Archie Michael Deal; sisters, Mary Kaufeberg, Effie Longwater and Barbara Ann Lapan.  He served his country in the U.S. Army, had formerly been employed with D.S.I.,  and retired from Bowman Transportation.  He was a member of the Alee Temple, was a member of the Oriental Band, Scottish Rite and a member of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge.  He and his wife were avid campers.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine D. & James Jackson and Nancy D. Traywick & Ronald Craig Plumbley; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Barham, Michael Shane Deal, Shauna Marie Starling and James E. Jackson, Jr.; a number of great-grandchildren; brother, John Willis Deal and numerous nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home located at 901 West Highway 80 in Pooler.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
