Virginia Johnson Flakes Cain
Rincon- Virginia Johnson Flakes Cain, 89, passed away peacefully December 19, 2014 at her residence.
Virginia was born in Liberty County, Georgia June 13, 1925. She was the daughter of Harriett Rebecca and William Ellis Johnson. She lived in Sardis for most of her childhood before moving to Port Wentworth and then to Rincon in 1969. Virginia was baptized into the Methodist Faith and was a Christian lady.
She had worked as a seamstress for many years at Thompson Co. in Millen, GA and Morrison's at Continental Can Corp. Most of her life she was a homemaker that caringly loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia enjoyed fishing, tending to her garden and flowers, rocking her angels, singing, and reciting scripture and poems. She never met a stranger and was loved by all whom she encountered.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husbands, Elton "Estelle" Flakes and Ben C. Cain; her son, Charles Elton Flakes; and her great-granddaughter, Gina Lynn Sherrod Helmly Ambrose.
Survivors include her beloved daughter-in-law, Juanita Turner Flakes; three grandchildren, Martha M. Wills (Dolfe), Linda J. Helmly (Buddy), and Charles "Bubba" Flakes, Jr. (Darlene); great-grandchildren, John A. Steed, Holly S. Bradley, Jacquelyn S. Ammons, Amanda Hargrove, James A. "Jamey" Helmly, III, Kristi L. Flakes Nease, Christopher C. Flakes, and Ashley R. Morris; great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa M. Mastin, Megan M. Steed, Cody Alex Ambrose, John Henry Steed, Alaina M. Mastin, Lillian S. Hargrove, Jameson J. Nease, Addison M. Ammons, and Anglo B. Hargrove; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice Savannah.
Visitation: 1-2 pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 in the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 in the funeral home chapel, with her great-nephew, Rev. Earnest Johnson officiating.
Interment: Rincon Cemetery
