Virginia was universally loved and respected by all that she met. She was the epitome of a gracious, faithful, Christian woman.
Virginia grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She made lifelong friends at Carrick high school, where she was a majorette and met her husband, Charles DiSalvo, captain of the football team. Virginia and her friends have stayed close for their entire lives, planning all of their high school reunions and playing cards. Virginia was well-known for her extraordinary ability to nurture friendships for her entire life.
Virginia loved children and spent over 30 years teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and babysitting young children. The families she babysat for remained in her life to the present and lovingly call her "Gigi".
She raised her family with her and Charles' values. They both worked hard and earned the respect of their children and community. She loved gardening, canning foods, dancing, music, playing the piano, figure skating, and being with all of her family. She had many interests that she loved to research and know more about.
Virginia was well-known for her card ministry with both her local church, Bible Lutheran, and her previous home church, Ruthfred Lutheran in Pennsylvania, Virginia sent hundreds of cards to shut-ins and persons with any special need. She loved providing compassion, comfort and support to not only her church families, but anyone who crossed her path. In specific, she touched the lives of many residents and staff at the Effingham Care Center where she spent the last two years of her life.
