Virginia Hartselle Edwards Hatfield passed away May 18, 2025. She was born December 7, 1933 and raised in Hartselle, Alabama.
Mrs. Hatfield is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon A. Hartselle, Sr., brothers Mahlon A. Hartselle, Jr. and Ted. C. Hartselle, sisters Linda Gail Fowler and Amelia Crawford, son George Phillip Hatfield, and granddaughter Crystal Delana Rahn. Her first husband of 3 ½ years, Irvin Corley Edwards, passed away in 1959. Her second husband of 37 years, George W. Hatfield, Jr., passed away in 1999.
Virginia enjoyed a career in banking for 30 years with the Exchange Bank of Springfield which later became Citizens and Southern National Bank of Springfield. She retired in 1988 and enjoyed traveling with her husband George. She was a member of the Springfield Oaks Church where she belonged to the Bible Studies Sunday School class and Grace Circle. She also enjoyed time at the Effingham Senior Center.
Mrs. Hatfield is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Kay Sandt of Clayton, Ga. and Susan Hatfield Yawn of Watkinsville, Ga. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Edwin Harold "Bubba" Rahn Jr. (Denise), Jennifer Ann Rahn, Sabrina Kay Westenbarger (Adam), George Patrick Yawn (Carrie), and Greta Elaine Combs. She is survived by seven great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, one sister Martha Ella Hartselle, one brother in law Wally Fowler, a very special sister in law, Sandra Zittrourer, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service will be held at Springfield Oaks Church at 4:00 pm on May 20, 2025. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Bible Studies Sunday School Class.
The family will receive visitors in the sanctuary one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to the Springfield Oaks Church at PO Box 237, Springfield, Ga 31329.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the excellent care given by Effingham Care and Rehabilitation Facility and Compassus Hospice.
