Bloomingdale-W. Herman Rawlins, 85, died on March 20, 2008 at Hospice Savannah.
Born May 8, 1922 in Marion County, Florida, he was raised in McRae, GA until he moved to Bloomingdale in 1954. He was predeceased by his first wife, Fannie Ruth, his second wife, Ernestine, parents, W.Y. and Florene Rawlins, 3 brothers, Russell, Edward, and Maurice, 3 sisters, Lois, Beatrice, and Ollie, and his son, H. Larry, Sr.
He was a member of Alpha United Methodist Church, 53 year member & Past Master of Richard T. Turner Lodge # 116, served on the Bloomingdale City Council for 26 years and was honored to be Citizen of the year 2006. He was an original board member of the West Chatham YMCA, was treasurer for the Bloomingdale Fire Dept. for a number of years, and active in the Bloomingdale Lions Club. He loved to hunt and fish and tend to his garden and animals.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Ellis of Bloomingdale; daughter-in-law, Becky Rawlins of Bloomingdale; four grandchildren, H. Larry Rawlins, Jr. (Cendia) of Eutaville, SC, Laura Lopez (Ray) of Bloomingdale, Jennifer Cannady (John) of Savannah, and Janet Grider (Eric) of Nashville, TN; eight great-grandchildren, Tres' Hester, Taylor Rawlins, Caleb & Haley Lopez, Cassidy & Joshua Cannady, and Jack & Charlie Grider; a sister, Latrelle Paulk (Jack) of Pace, FL; and many nieces/nephews and friends.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 in the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the chapel of the funeral home.
Interment: Gravel Hill Cemetery
