Newington – Mr. Walter A. "Buddy" Newton, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at his home.
Buddy was born in Savannah to the late, Melvin C. Newton and Threze W. Newton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marcy N. Windham and brother-in-law, Harvey Windham.
He lived his childhood in Florida with his grandparents and moved to Effingham in his early teens where he attended school and played basketball and baseball. After graduation, he joined the Army National Guard and went to work with Southern Bell Telephone.
He enjoyed boating in the summer on the Savannah River and bird, deer, and turkey hunting in the fall. He and his wife Connie enjoyed dancing on the weekends in their younger years. When their grand girls came along, weekends were spent fishing, hunting, tractor riding, and ball game watching. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield. He was a Braves fan and Georgia Bulldog football fan as well.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Connie Scott Newton; his children, Karen Page, Karla Gnann (Allen), Scott Newton (Becky), and Keith Page (Cristin); grandchildren, Kourtnee Pierson, Kristian Page, Kacee Page, Hunter Kollinger (Nick), and McKenna Warren; great-grandson, Malachi Newton Kollinger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald & Brenda Scott, Bobbie & Robert Fruitticher, and William & Mary Lana Scott; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 3-4 pm Friday, April 29, 2022 in the funeral home.
Funeral: 4 pm Friday, April 29, 2022 in the funeral home chapel.
Private Interment: Springfield Annex Cemetery
Remembrances: First Baptist Church of Springfield or Ogeechee Hospice.
