Walter Jean Carswell, beloved wife, mother, and devoted teacher, peacefully ascended to her heavenly home on October 22, 2024, at the age of 75 in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by her loved ones. Walter showed a lifelong passion for learning, compassion for others, and love for animals, specifically: Jack, Smokey, and Samson.

Walter earned her Bachelor's in English and later obtain her Master's.   Walter brought wisdom, grace, and humor to her work, inspiring countless young lives.

Joined in marriage in 1972 to Ronald Carswell.  They made their home in New York and retire together in Savannah, Georgia. Their unbreakable bond would last for 52 years till her transition, their union was blessed with a son, Sean. In addition to her professional life, Walter was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church and later Compassion Christian Church, where she welcomed all with her kind smile as a greeter.

Walter is preceded in death by parents, Tommy Lee and Ruby Ford; and beloved nephew, Grailing Brown. Walter is survived by her loving husband, Ronald; her cherished son, Sean; sister, Rebecca Howard; and near to her heart nephew, Donny A Carswell II (Margie); sisters-in-law, Beverly Brown (Willie), Gwendolyn Murray (Frederick), Brenda Bell (Donald), Sandra Conyers (Lester), Gail Wellman (Hawley), and Karen Carswell; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Carswell (Gwendolyn) and Donny A. Carswell (Lazette); her beloved cousin, Velma Gibson; special friends, John and Gina Calorego, Barbara Searie, Betsy MacNamee, and Dawn Daniels; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Walter will be remembered for her legacy of warmth, strength, faith, her joyful spirit and unwavering support of those she loved.

The visitation will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Compassion Christian Church, AMC Building, located at 50 Al Henderson Boulevard in Savannah.  The funeral to honor Walter's life will follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.
