Obituary

Walter Bryant Humbert, Jr. (Walt)

Walt Humbert died at home Thursday, May 31st. In his youth he was on the Wilshire swim team where he won many a blue ribbon in free style, backstroke and butterfly. He learned to play saxophone and played for the Windsor Forest Knights marching band and engaged in many band competitions. He began his career at Gulfstream Aerospace where he remained for 30 years. His first love, though, was motorcycles - all things motorcycle - from building to modifying, tinkering with bikes was a joy. So, he left Gulfstream and went to work for Hilton Head Motorsports where he despaired of selling jet skis. So, he searched for and found a gig at Savannah Harley Davidson where he could sell and be around his beloved Harleys. A wonderful cook he loved planning and cooking large spreads for his friends and family. Much to the chagrin of his Bulldog loving family he chose to be an LSU fan after spending some time in Louisiana as a child. But because both were in the SEC they peacefully co-existed. He is predeceased by his parents Walter Bryant Humbert, Sr. & Mary Watts Humbert. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, her daughters Katie Miller and fiancee Aric Green, Elaine Gayheart; grandchildren, Michael, Aria and Kiya; his daughter Meghan Shea Humbert and his sister Mary Ellen (Tom) Beytagh. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 5th from 4-6 p.m. at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, 901 W. Hwy. 80 in Pooler. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Savannah Humane Society, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406. Friends may sign the online register book at www.stricklandandsonsfuneralhome.com Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes - West Chatham Chapel (912) 748-2444
