Springfield – Walter Sims Smith, 81, passed away September 2, 2021 at Effingham Hospital.

The Chatham County native served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam.  He was a welder and member of the N.R.A.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Fellman Smith and Josephine Camille Dadin Smith; sons, Walter Herman "Bubba" Smith and Johnny Ray Smith; siblings, Jean, Doris, Olga, Richard, and Teddy.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Aeger Smith; children, Selena Yocco, Joseph Kimball Smith, Zachary Justin Smith, and Erin Michelle Smith; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Livingston, Brenda Lynch, and Theresa Owen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Greenwich Cemetery.
